Neurofeedback (NFB)

Neurofeedback, or neurotherapy, is a form of biofeedback - electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback that helps a person identify, monitor, and modify their own brainwave activity. Research seems to indicate that people with ADD/ADHD and other brain related disabilities have too little activity in some parts of the brain and too much in other areas. But with neurotherapy, individuals of all ages can be trained to use non-invasive computerized biofeedback equipment to painlessly monitor and adjust brain activity to more normal levels.

Neurofeedback has been used successfully for over three decades to treat and manage various disorders which affect cognitive function including epilepsy and ADHD. More recently, therapists have been using neurofeedback to help patients cope with depression, bipolar disorder, developmental disorders, autism, and impulse disorders. Those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may also benefit from this form of treatment. According to an article published in USA Today, in 2008 the Pentagon committed $5 million toward researching the effectiveness of neurofeedback and other alternative therapies in treating veterans suffering from PTSD.
