Overview of Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury not only poses an immediate threat to an individual's life and well-being, it may also present a wide range of long term challenges. Currently more than five million Americans are living with the effects of TBI and need some sort of assistance with daily living. Although the injury itself may be sustained in just a matter of seconds, the recovery period can take years. And since the brain determines an individual's personality as well as his or her ability to function intellectually, emotionally, and physically, such an injury also impacts everyone that individual interacts with including family, friends, co-workers, and the world at large.
